Publishers Description: In "Den Gamle By" we work with the past, but we do so in the present with a view to the future. There is research behind everything that we do, but despite this we do not wish the Museum to appear academic. Den Gamle By holds knowledge, which may have become superfluous, but which may perhaps prove useful in the future. We focus on Danish history. We think that one should be able to feel and sense history-taste, smell, and experience it. It should be enjoyable to visit museums, and we are convinced that providing museum visitors with a good experience will open up for thoughts and contemplation, which is the museums true objective. About the Thomas Bloch Ravn was born in 1954. He has a Masters degree in Danish Cultural and Community History. He is the Museum Director of Den Gamle By, Chairman of the Danish Centre of Urban History as well appointed Senior Lecturer in History at Aarhus University. He has previously been employed at the Danish Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities, Copenhagen University, teh State Archives and Struer Museum. Thomas Bloch Ravn is the author of several books on history and has written articles on the craft guilds and urban history.
